MIAMI, FL – November 9, 2005 – Building on recent success in the European arena, an Apollo Ship Chandlers affiliate
has commenced hotel management of the MV Island Star, the second ship in the fleet of British operator, Island Cruises.
Onboard Island Star, Apollo affiliate Island Ship Services Limited (ISSL) will provide full food, beverage, hotel, and
purser department management and crew, as well as provisioning and other services.
The Island Star joins the Island Escape, which has been served by ISSL since November 2004.
Apollo’s management team is very familiar with the Island Star, since in its former incarnation as MV Horizon, the vessel
was served for 14 years by an Apollo affiliate. Apollo has capitalized on this experience in the choice of onboard
management for the Island Star.
The vessel is currently in dry-dock in Freeport, Bahamas, and crew members are arriving via the MV Discovery Sun,
owned and operated by Apollo’s sister company Discovery Cruise Line, which provides regular scheduled service between
South Florida and Freeport. The Island Star will commence sailing on December 4, with a special voyage from Aruba to
Santos, Brazil. Following a winter season in South America, the vessel will reposition to the Mediterranean in March 2006,
offering a variety of 7 and 14 day cruises from Palma de Mallorca.
Commenting on the developments, Apollo President, Rafael A. Ordoñez said: “We are very excited to welcome the former
Horizon back to our fleet as the Island Star, and to strengthen our relationship with Island Cruises. Our first year serving the
Island Escape has been interesting and productive, and we look forward to even greater things in the coming year.”
